Can we stop claiming that scientists predicted an ice age in the 1970s?

It may not have been a huge issue in popular culture but it was enough that I learned about it in grammar school. This is just an indication that we really aren't as smart as we think we are nor do we have a full knowledge of Terran temperature cycles.
