Wiccas:can you break your own witches bottle?

I've been a wicca for about 5 months and i needed to protect myself from something. I think its fine now and i really dont want a witches bottle anymore if i dug it up and broke it would it stop working? And where do i put the stuff that was in the bottle can i just dump it out anywhere?
